When I was four years old I made this self-portrait. On the back my mother wrote my explanation:

I am the one in the middle, the three blobs on the left are my father, mother and sister. The blob on the right is Knuf, my favoutite soft toy.

I am Eos Brüggen (1996, she/they) and I am a multi-media visual artist and theatre maker based in Amsterdam and London. My artistic practice emerges from a place of happiness and wonderment, and it is strongly rooted in the memories of my childhood.

I studied Ayurvedic medicine at the Delight Academy in Amsterdam, which offered me a holistic worldview in which childlike experiences were possible again. With enough inspiration to last lifetimes, I then continued to study Fine Art at Goldsmiths University in London.

Today, the aim in my practice is to translate these childhood memories and all-embracing worldviews to philosophies of object-relations, which then leads to immersive works of art in which I invite the audience to become part of a magical world where embodiment and playfulness are key, where all senses are sharpened, and where grief acts as a doorway to a vaster understanding of our inter-existence on this earth. Through creating these experiments and rituals together, I want to question an anthropocentric worldview and propose symbiotic relationships between subjects and objects.

My sister is a theatre maker and we often work together, as we have noticed the same thread of thought in our work.

I believe technical craftsmanship and a new sense of beauty in the arts are important tools for shaping the future.
