Eos Brüggen (1996, she/they) is a multidisciplinary visual artist, theatre- and troublemaker based in the Netherlands.
Her practice brings together ecology, eroticism and hauntology, to explore how lingering pasts, human-, and more-than-human bodies shape one another. Drawing on feminist, posthumanist, and phenomenological perspectives, they approach the body not as a closed entity, neither in time nor in space, but as a porous and relational presence, continuously formed through encounters with the other.
She is particularly interested in what appears absent yet remains present in the traces left behind; demanding we reconcile with what remains unfinished, unresolved, or no longer there.
They investigate these questions through installation, textile, sculpture, drawing, performance, film, and text. Central to her practice is a labour-intensive and craft-based approach, in which tactility and materiality play important roles.
Collaboration forms an essential part of Brüggen’s artistic practice. Working across the fields of visual art and theatre, she regularly develops projects in dialogue with makers from different disciplines. For example, she frequently collaborates with her sister Zephyr Brüggen, who is a theatre maker and performer; together they form the artistic duo Brüggen & Brüggen. These collaborative processes function not only as a method of making, but also as an extension of her broader interest in reciprocity, relationality, and collective forms of knowledge production.
When it comes down to presentation, Brüggen is interested in the conditions under which art is encountered. Her practice often moves between the white cube of visual art and the black box of theatre, while actively seeking what she describes as the grey space: sites not yet recognised as presentation venues. Through open scenographies, performative strategies, and site-responsive installations, she explores how artworks unfold through the presence, movement, and agency of their audiences.
Brüggen studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, and Ayurveda the at Delight Academy in Amsterdam.
